In the latest attempt to shelter college students from any and all harm, FOX 6 Now reported on August 19th, 2018 that Delaware State University is placing a BAN on all snowball fights on campus.
According to FOX 6 Now, the ban is to protect students from any potential harm that can be caused by these “fights.” This ban also cites students in the past throwing snowballs around dorms and snowballs that were “iced-over,” creating a dangerous environment towards the students.
Delaware State is taking this ban quite seriously. The ban now appears in their Student Judicial Handbook, right after the clause about “slander, libel, or defamation of character.” The ban can be found on page 34, listed as their 8th personal violation.
This ban is just the latest on academia’s quest to turn America’s campuses into so-called “safe spaces.” As more and more colleges nationwide take steps to create these spaces, the question that is left is, do students actually want this to happen? People are speaking out against changes similar to this though, using platforms like Campus Reform, Lone Conservative, The College Fix and many more to express their distaste.
One thing is for sure, Delaware State is NOT a good place for a snowball fight. Delaware State may be an important campus to keep an eye on, as safe space creation commonly takes multiple rule changes.
